Welcome
The Wind and Marine Energy Group is based at Heriot-Watt University in Scotland, at both its Edinburgh campus and
its Orkney International Centre for Island Technology (ICIT). The group consists of scientists and engineers whose
expertise ranges from computational fluid dynamics, through to structural analysis and experimental
measurement, all working in areas related to renewable energy.
The group's primary goal is to improve scientific understanding of energy extraction from both wind and tidal
marine sources, through R&D modelling techniques developed at the University, corroborated with experiment. To this end,
it is developing tools and methodologies to improve the planning of wind farms, and eventually tidal marine farms,
which will be of benefit to the private sector.
The Wind and Marine Energy Group aims to lead cutting-edge research into exploitation of energy from both the
wind and sea, and through working with the renewable energy industry, benefit both the private sector and consumer alike,
in Scotland and world-wide.
