Background

Susana Bastón graduated from the University of Vigo (Spain) with an honours degree in Marine Science in 2002. She did a MSc. in Coastal Engineering at University of Cantabria (Spain) in 2004 which was followed by a PhD at the same department entitled: “Long wave propagation in semi-enclosed bays”. She was awarded her PhD in December 2008.

In September 2009 she joined ICIT as a Post-Doctoral Researcher associated to the Marine Renewable Energy Development in Scotland (MREDS) programme, with the objective to study potential effects of MRE devices on flow behaviour and the consequences arising therefrom. Dr Baston is successfully undertaken the implementation of an advanced numerical model developed by Stanford University (SUNTANS) to describe the characteristics of the tidal flow for the Pentland Firth and Orkney Waters (PFOW), the first site worldwide where development of large scale tidal turbine farms is planned.
